Legendary Finnish designer and sculptor Tapio Wirkkala’s greatest inspiration often came from his native Finland. With the iconic Ultima Thule glassware design, the artist defied the rules of glassblowing after spending nearly a thousand hours with the glassblowers at the Iittala Glass Factory to recreate an ice-covered Finnish island he had been inspired by. The form of the collection is characterised by a rounded base that is supported by three ice peaks that float above the surface. Care: Can be washed in the dishwasher at a water temperature of maximum 50 °C and using dishwasher tablets or powder. The glasses should be positioned in the top rack of the dishwasher so that they do not touch each other during the wash cycle. The surface area of glass expands when heated and therefore glasses should not be stacked while still warm from washing as they then may stick together and break. Hot glasses taken out of the dishwasher should be allowed to cool down before filling with cold water.
